Fall 2025 ELL all levels Saturday (8WI)

ELL Advanced: This course is intended for students who have completed the Intermediate course or have a high intermediate to advanced level of English. The course will focus on building skills in reading, writing, grammar and advanced vocabulary for everyday life or academic study. The classes will offer practice through a variety of activities, including class discussions, oral presentations, small group work and individual assignments.
ELL Intermediate: This course is designed for students who have completed the Beginner course or who have a basic foundation in English. The course will focus on building and improving English grammar, vocabulary, and writing skills for communicating in everyday situations. The reading activities focus on comprehension and critical thinking skills. Activities include class discussions, group work and individual assignments.
ELL Beginner: This course is intended for students with limited English language skills. The focus will be to build a practical English vocabulary and understanding of basic grammar structures to communicate in everyday life. Class activities will give students practice in conversational English as well as reading and writing.
Note: New students will have placement test on the first date to place into Advanced class, or Intermediate class, or Beginner class

Fall 2025 Bridge to Academic English (8WI)

This engaging course is designed for individuals interested in developing foundational skills in communication. Whether for personal enrichment, travel, or professional purposes, this course provides a supportive environment for learners at all levels. Key topics include: Basic vocabulary and phrases - introduction to essential words and phrases for everyday conversations, including greetings, introductions, and common expressions; Pronunciation and listening skills - techniques for improving pronunciation and understanding spoken through listening exercises and interactive practice; Basic grammar concepts - overview of fundamental grammar rules, including sentence structure, verb conjugation, and common grammatical pitfalls; Conversational practice - opportunities for participants to engage in guided dialogues and role-playing activities to build confidence in speaking and comprehension and cultural insights - exploration of cultural nuances and practices in English-speaking countries to enhance understanding and communication. Participants will leave this course equipped with practical language skills and the confidence to engage in future academic English courses.

Key components include: Advanced grammar essentials - exploration of complex grammatical structures, including sentence variety, punctuation nuances, and common errors to avoid; Writing techniques - strategies for crafting compelling narratives, persuasive essays, and professional documents, focusing on voice, tone, and audience engagement; Editing and revision skills - hands-on practice in self-editing and peer reviewing to refine writing and enhance overall quality and practical applications - real-world writing exercises and assignments designed to apply advanced grammar and writing techniques in various contexts.
