Spring 2027 HVAC-R Program

$6,000

The MassBay HVAC-R Certificate Program is a comprehensive 600 hour, 39 week workforce training program designed to prepare students for entry level employment in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration. The program combines foundational theory with extensive hands on laboratory instruction so students develop both an understanding of system operation and the practical skills required to install, service, measure, diagnose, and troubleshoot HVAC-R equipment.

Students progress through electrical theory and application, refrigeration principles and service practices, refrigerant management, EPA Section 608 preparation, heat pumps, ductless systems, residential air conditioning, gas heating, hydronic and steam systems, airflow diagnostics, controls, combustion, NEC code application, and A2L refrigerants. The program also introduces current industry diagnostic platforms and procedures including digital probes, JobLink, MeasureQuick, modern evacuation and charging methods, static pressure testing, and combustion efficiency testing.

The curriculum is intentionally paced to provide time for students to understand core concepts, apply them in the lab, develop tool proficiency, and demonstrate competency and safety before moving into more advanced topics. Students who successfully complete the program are expected to be fully equipped with the foundational knowledge, practical skill set, safety preparation, and industry credentials needed to enter the HVAC-R workforce in an entry level technician or apprentice role.
